It wasn't an easy decision to make (though having a visitor helped), but I'm officially returning to the states at the end of September, putting my journey at 11 months and 1 day, just a month shy of a year, but it's time for my return. I was considering staying at least a semester and enrolling full time to study Chinese, but I wasn't sure what I'd do with it (my time here has reaffirmed my lack of desire to be a teacher), and I don't think I could make the what should be at least a 2 year commitment to really become fluent.
honestly had it not been for the wonderful people I've met here, I might have jumped ship and gone back sooner. I've never settled into liking my job (the random hours, poor management, and lack of challenge), and without these awesome people I would've been not only bored but crazy with my job. Thankfully due to their fault, I arrived here two months into my contract and they didn't have me sign a new one, only committing myself to 10 months with the company. They obviously weren't happy and said things to me like, "You need to work 2 more months, how are we supposed to find another teacher? Your bonus is in jeoporady," but none of those things were my responsibility and I told them so. We'll see what happens about the rest of my flight reumbursement and bonus, but another month before I have to deal with that.
In the meantime I have to find an apartment for a month(have to move out Aug 22), change my visa into a tourist one(Around aug 31), find teachers for my private students, and plan my trip to chengdu/maybe also qingdao. but, the first step is done, my plane ticket purchased for September 29th to Denver, October 11th to Cleveland.
touchdown in t minus 2 months and 2 days
