Fireworks!

I really wish I could convey how amazing the fireworks are here. Since that night at the train station (Chinese New Year's Eve) there has been a constant sound of them in the air. This morning I woke up to my building shaking from them, some big ones were being set off just outside my building. By big ones I mean the ones that are in wrapping paper sized tubes, 36 at a time. The ones where you hear a 'thunk' for the launch and it's 7 seconds or so before it's up in the sky and bursting with light and sound. But, I don't think it's possible to appreciate the magnitude of it unless you're here. I couldn't find the words to describe it two years ago and I can't now.
Some of it is seeing a bunch of middle aged dudes(mostly men) gathering around a roll of firecrackers, setting them off, and running for cover while giggling like teenagers. I love it! Fireworks are pure fun. And yes they're loud, smelly (which I kinda like, is a weird way like a lit match), and make a mess. But for these few precious weeks, they're also pure fun.
